Stage: Saturn Valley

Name: Saturn Valley

Universe: Mother/EarthBound

Debut: Mother 3

Size: Small

Hazards: 1(out of 5)

Saturn Valley is home to the Mr. Saturns. It is a peaceful valley set between cliffs. There are houses, ponds, and trees. However, during the course of events in Mother 3, the valley is invaded by the Pig Mask Army.

Appearance

The stage itself lies on a floating Saturn Table board, much like what Lucas flies in his stage entrance. In the background is the village with Mr. Saturns walking in the distance. Everything is tranquil and as it should be. During the stage, Mr. Saturns will attempt to balance on ladders while trying to catch birds using red balloons tied to their noses.

Hazards

There are no hazards in this stage.

My Thoughts

I decided on saturn Valley since it is an important location in Mother 3 as well as a stage representation for Lucas. It also focuses on one of the more unique items in the game, Mr. Saturn.

Stage: Icicle Ruins

Name: Icicle Ruins

Universe: Ice Climbers

Debut: Super Smash Bros. 4

Size: Medium

Hazard Level: 4 (out of 5)

Availability: Starter

Icicle Ruins is a stage based off from the Ice Climbers series.  While no such locale exists in the game, this stage tries to capture the feel of the Ice Climbers.  This giant monolithic structure is caked in ice and snow and offers a lot of chances for adventure and peril.  You can tell by the cracked pillars by years of ice and frost.

Appearance

The stage consists of a single stone platform held up by two arches.  Underneath these is a swirling snowstorm that threatens to carries of the players away.  Above the single platform is a roof to shelter the platform from the elements.  Or so we may assume because the right portion of the roof and collapsed.  You can see the remains of the roof on the right side of the platform.  Players can jump ontop of the left portion of the roof as well.  Littered around the stage are fall boulders and stone from the right side of the roof.  Players can climb on top of these.

It looks as if the ruins were built into the side of a mountain because, on the right side, it ends into a cliff face and subterranean tunnels seem to lead to no where.  Players can fall off on both sides and the cliff face is just a part of the background.  On the left hand side, players have access to a brilliant winter wonderland and alpine snow-clad mountains.

Hazards

This stage is full of hazards.  Occasionally, a snow storm will brew and any trace of the stage vanishes.  All players see is a swirling mass of white snow so players are not sure if they land; if it will be sweet solid ground or a bottomless pit.  As well, during these blizzards, polar bears may come out to play with the players.  After the blizzard subsides, players can gawk at the amazing beauty behind them.  However, a minute after the snowstorm, a warning will appear.  The mountain will shake briefly and boulders will begin falling down the ruins.  Being hit by these massive boulders will always amount to a OHKO.  You can predict when a boulder will hit by watching the shadow on the ground.  They can be broken apart by strong attacks but can break shields.

My Thoughts

I really struggled with an Ice Climbers based stage.  They don`t have too many games and none recently.  Therefore, it`s hard to come up with a stage for them.  I wanted a less goofy stage though and more of a grimmer, ancient few to a Ice Climbers stage.  I was also  partially inpsired by the hacked Snow Shrine stage.  Oh and I know that picture is from Skyrim.  Well aware of that.

Stage: Cookie Country

Cookie Country from Kirby’s Return to Dreamland

Name: Cookie Country

Universe: Kirby

Debut: Kirby`s Return to Dreamland

Stage Size: Medium

Hazard Level: 2 (out of 5)

Availability: Starter

Cookie Country is one of the new locals of the game Kirby`s Return to Dreamland.  It contains pleasant gardens, vibrant trees, and falling exploding blocks.

Appearance

The stage is fought directly over sparkling water.  The background overlooks a portion of Popstar`s countryside.  The stage itself is situated on three raised earthen platforms while starblocks form bridges across these expanses of water.  When one is hit, a replacement will fall down to take its place.  However, occasion, a Bomb Block will fall down and will explode if hit.  It is a very cheerful area to fight in and as well as various enemies can be seen; walking along the stage.

Hazards

The only hazards on this stage are the Bomb Blocks.  However, they are very few in number so getting caught in a mega explosion won`t be as much as a problem before.  However, if you stay in the water long enough, you may or may not drown.  Also, if you get caught between the water and the falling blocks, do your best to knock the blocks or you will drown.

My Thoughts

The Kirby franchise was one one of the hardest franchise to come up with stages before because I literally never played the games before.  I just never had a chance to but doesn’t mean I wouldn’t.  However, from what I have read, many people are billing Cookie Country as the Kirby`s main stage rep.  As well, I am replacing Cookie Country with the Lor Starcutter since I feel this stage is more in-line with the Green Greens stages and other Kirby stages in the past.  Let me know what you think!

Stage: The Ring

The Ring

Name: The Ring

Universe: Punch-Out!!

Debut:

Size: Small

Hazard Level: 2 (out of 5)

Availability: Starter

The Ring is the main stage of the Punch-Out!! series. It has been the place for many tournaments and many boxers have found fame or defeat within it’s ropes. Little Mac defeated Mr. Sandman in this very ring and took the championship belt.

Appearance

This stage differs from the usual boxing ring found in Punch-Out!! games. The camera view is situated on level with the ring floor. Instead of the overhead diagonal view or directly behind the player’s boxer, it shows directly from outside the ring looking it. Thus, the ropes are in front of the players.

On either side of the rung are stools for the fighters to sit on. However, they can be used to throw at opponents at the start of the fight. If you hit one of the ropes, it will cause you to bump of slightly. Running at it or being smashed into it causes you be slingshot the opposite way. Jumping on it causes the player to jump up fairly slightly.

Next to the ring is the main audience floor. It has walk-off sides so be careful. Occasionally, a TV monitor stand will lower down and allow players to jump onto it and climb up on top. However, spending too much time of it will cause the monitors to fall onto the ground.

The background contains audience stands full of people. Occasionally, Doc Louis, Mr. Sandman, Super Macho Man, Glass Joe, Bear Hugger, Soda Popinki, Mad Clown, and Von Kaiser will appear in the background, either booing or cheering for the players.

Hazards

There aren’t too many hazard in this stage. The first set of hazards to appear are the throwable stools that are in opposite corners of the stage. The second one is the TV monitors that appear above the stage. They can be knocked down by players and then crash down. They don’t do much damage unless directly underneath in which can can OHKO as low as 40.

My Thoughts

I had trouble creating this stage because of the limited world of Punch-Out!!. Originally, I envisioned the camera angle like the usual Punch- Out!! ring that has appeared before but I thought it would look odd for the camera to be looking downward so I opted for a more side camera view.

Chances of Being in SSB4

100%/0% – This stage is only guaranteed if Little Mac is playable. If not, I don’t expect a stage based off the ring to appear.

Stage: Halberd

Halberd Stage from Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Name: Halberd

Universe: Kirby

Debut:

Size: Large

Hazard Level: 4 (out of 5)

Availability: Starter

The Halberd is Meta Knights massive flying battleship. It has a large array of weapons to attack and decimate foes. The battleship is capable of space and underwater flight as well as air flight. At times, the battleship hinders and attacks Kirby or aids him in his adventures.

Appearance

Halberd appears similarly as it did in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, instead if fighting on a floating platform that occasionally lands on the deck, players fight in a side scrolling tour of the entire ship.

The ship first starts at the hull of the battleship, near the replica of Meta Knight’s mask. However, the combo cannon is currently not functioning. The stage scrolls while players must duke it out across the top of the ship.

When they reach the back of the ship, an elevator activates and brings the fighters down into the storage area. The stage momentarily stops and fighters can fight in the storage area. The only KO’able place is through the top of the stage.

The stage continues through a blast door and leads through a series of dimly lite corridors (seen in SSBB). The stage finally stops at the reactor. Touching the crystal will cause 20% Electrical damage and high knockback. Attacking it will cause the electrical attack range to extend even further. It cannot be attacked by assist trophies, Poké Balls, Summons, or Boss Spheres.

The stage will then continue down a shaft and leads to another room with a floating platform and other Meta Knight troops in the background; training. The stage will stop again and, after 20 seconds, the Meta Knights will vanish. That is a warning that the bottom of the stage will open up and toss players into the sky. After 15 seconds, the bay doors will close and the floating platform will carry the players up an elevator shaft.

They will then enter the control room (seen in SSBB). There are no gimmicks here but, the glass can be broken, in which, air will start shooting in and pushing players. The floating platform appears again and transports players down an elevator shaft, through a series of boiling containers and factory-esque decor and then drops them off back into the hull; in which the Combo Cannon is functional and waiting. Afterward, the stage loops again.

Hazards

The main worry is the combo cannon at the end. It can grab players and blast them with a well-aimed beam blast. It can also whack players with the claw arm. It can do this three-four times before the stage begins to move. Attacking it might decrease the amount if times it can attack.

My Thoughts

I struggled with making a new Halverd stage. I wanted to include it but couldn’t find a way how to make it newer. However, I recalled playing on the Helberd in the SSE mode in SSBB and used that as a way to incorporate the entire battleship into a single stage. I feel I captured another face of the Halberd that we have never seen before.

Chances of Being in SSb4

60% – Sakurai seems to like the Halberd so he might find a way to incorporate it into SSB4.

Stage: Phaaze

Phaaze from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Name: Phaaze

Universe: Metroid

Debut: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Stage Size: Large

Hazard Level: 4 (out of 5)

Availability: Starter

Phaaze is the origin of Phazon and is a near-living planet. It uses Leviathon’s to invade other planets and spread Phazon.  During the events of Metroid Prime series, Phaaze launched several Leviathans in various worlds such as Tallon IV, Elysia, and the Pirate Homeworld. Dark Samus took the power of Phaaze and harnessed it for her own. It is a world of peril, danger, and death thus it should be avoided at all costs.

Appearance

The first phaaze (lol) is located above the planets atmosphere. The planet appears blue, cold, dark, and evil. The planets atmosphere shifts and changes every now and then. The stage itself appears to be frozen phazon but it does not have normal ice properties.

The second phaaze is below on the surface. The stage becomes a singular platform of phazon and is set overlooking a massive area of Phazon-corrupted landscape. The background shots every now and then. As well, at least once, a Leviathan will launch out from the planet.

The third phaaze returns the players back to above the atmosphere.

Hazards

The first phase of the stage has no hazards to speak of save for a little floatiness due to the space-like conditions. Players can also jump higher. The stage will begin to fall but players are not affected during this point.

However, when the stage lands on the ground, the real danger begins. After 50 seconds pass, a warning sign will appear and a single floating platform will appear. Phazon-like gases invades the stage and spreads all along the bottom of it. Touching it will poison players and will take away 3% health every 2 seconds. If you touch it but escape, the poison will stay with you for 6 more seconds before disappearing.

The Phazon gas stays in the stage for 20 seconds before stage goes up into the atmosphere again.

Dark Sanctuary Fortress (Metroid Prime 2)
Dark Agon Wastes (Metroid Prime 2)

Cameos

Leviathans

My Thoughts

This stage appears as the homestage for Dark Samus.  In fact, adding Dark Samus into my roster automatically added in Phaaze.  I wanted a really dark stage that utilizes poison and had a dark-blue/gray color scheme.  Phaaze just seemed to fit what I was looking for.

Chances of Being in SSB4

? – Phaaze will only appear if Dark Samus is added (most likely) so I don’t see it being a stage unless that happens.

Stage: Diddy’s Island

Name: Diddy`s Island

Universe: Diddy Kong

Debut: Diddy Kong`s Racing

Stage Size: Large

Hazard Level: 2 (out of 5)

Availability: Starter

Diddy`s Island is technically Timber`s Island from the Diddy Kong Racing series.  However, it is unknown when or if ownership ever switched hands between the tiger and money.  That being said, the island is known in the Super Smash Bros. universe as Diddy`s Island.  The island is a drivers sanctuary with rolling hills, caverns, and waterways for hoverboats.  located in and around the island are portals that lead to different aeras of the island that plays host to themed-race tracks such as beach, winter wonderlands, or dinosaur parks.  This peace was hsattered when the evil alien Wizpig enslaved this sanctuary, put is denizens into slavery, and set himself as ruler.  Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong set off to fight against Wizpig in the 2nd installent of the game Diddy Kong`s Racing DS.

Appearance

There are 6 zones that the stage appears in.  The first zone is the Lobby Zone and is the main courtyard in front of Wizpig`s statue.  Frogs jump around, birds fly overhead, and waterfalls splash down into crystal like pools.  The players fight on the ground in front of the statue.  Ocassionally, the racers like Tiptup and Pipsy will appear.  A warning will show and the stage (a piece of racetrack) will elevate and the background will distort and then fade in to the next zone.

The second zone is the Dinosaur Zone.  This represents Dino Domain from the series.  The track itself resembles Ancient Lake the most with elements from Fossil Canyon (a evening sun), Jungle Falls (crumbling ruins and waterfalls), and Hot top Volcano (a volcano in the distance).  Somewhere during the track, Tricky the Triceratops appears and charges the stage.  The stage itself follows a specified track that zips around curves, underneath dinosaurs, through ruins, and around ancient rocks.

The zone vanishes and the next zone Ice Zone will appear.  This represents Snowflake Mountain from the series.  The track itself resembles Frosty Village the most with some elements from Everfrost Peak (a frozen river), Walrus Cove (a ice loop track portion that the stage flies through), and Snowball Valley (giant snowballs that come crashing down in the distance).  During the race, Bluey the Walrus will appear and will run in front of the stage for a little while.  The stage follows a specified track that flies down snowy hills, blasts through quiet village, zips through a icy loop, and barely misses massive snowballs.

The next zone is the Beach Zone.  It represents Sherbert Island from the series.   The track itself resembles Pirate Lagoon mostly with some elements taken from Whale Bay (a partially sunken ship and topical foliage), Crescent Cove (a floating ship and beautiful waterfalls), and Treasure Caves (patches of green goo).  During the race, Bubbler the Octopus can be seen floating in the water.  he will lunge at the stage but miss.  The stage follows a specified track that splashes into the water, goes through waterfalls, zips past sunken and floating ships, and plays in the waves.

The next zone is the Dragon Zone.  It represents Dragon Forest from the series.  The track resembles Greenwood Village with some elements taken from Windmill Plains (massive windmills in the distance and hills of hay), Boulder Canyon (dark sewers with algae), and Haunted Woods (a dark area with ghosts that resemble Wizpig).  During the race, Smokey the Dragon will appear and fly overhead.  He will fly high into the air, circle, and then return back and soars right above the stage.

The last zone is Space Zone.  It represents Future Fun Land from the series.  The track itself resembles Star City with some elements from Spacedust Alley (lasers), Darkmoon Caverns (a loop in the track, craters, and Wizpig`s spaceships), and Spaceport Alpha (a powerful fan).  Oddly, Wizpig himself doesn`t make a appearance but his mug shows up on televised screens has he mockingly laughs at the players.

Going through all the zones and re-looping back to the Lobby Zone takes around 6 minutes and 30 seconds.  Each zone takes one minute and 5 seconds to change the zones.

Hazards

There aren`t too many hazrads in this stage and it is pretty straight forward.  However, the camera changes and moves to go along with the shifting of the stage.

My Thoughts

Diddy Kong Racing was popular when it was first released and while a sequel wasn`t released until much later, it still remains a very important game for the Nitendo 64.  This is why I propose for it to become a stage as well as Diddy and Dixie`s home stage.  To me, this stage is solely Diddy`s stage and has no Donkey Kong influence.

Chances of it being in SSB4

?% – This was a idea I had and honestly cannot predict if sakurai will includeDiddy Kong Racing into a SSB ga,e.  However, with the recent Diddy Kong Racing DS game, it has a decent shot at having some representation.
